European Western Comic Books

The Civil War is now a distant memory: long caravans travel across the plains to California, the land of pastures and gold. It’s the era of Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hickock, couriers of the West. And the era of Kit Carson, the scout and the most popular character in the west.

Illustrated by Rino Albertarelli, who also drew many other famous comics among which were his versions of the novels of Emilio Salgari and equally well-known are the series of the "Gentleman of Sixteen", "Doctor Faustus" and "Gino and Gianni", all made from the texts of Pedrocchi. Kit Carson was subsequently taken over by Pedrocchi and Walter Molino.

The original series of 14 editions was published in Milan, Italy by Arnoldo Mondadori from 1938-1940.

Rino Albertarelli was born in Cesena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy on June 8, 1908. He is considered one of the great masters of Italian comics of the twentieth century.

His career began in Milan in 1935, the city where he had moved, and took place with publishers Argentovivo and L'Audace. Two years later he entered the service of Arnoldo Mondadori Editore creating one of his most famous characters; Kit Carson.

After a long period during which he devoted himself to other activities, including that of an illustrator of the stories of Emilio Salgari in 1973 he sought the attention of the general public with a series published by the current publisher Sergio Bonelli Editore, entitled I protagonisti, dedicated to famous figures of the border that he will work on until his death in Milan on September 21, 1974.
