Hardin a gunslinger is released from Yuma prison, legally or otherwise is not certain. He and a small group of vagabonds try to make off toward the Mexican sunset with an ill-gotten cache of $50,000 in gold. Among the group are Kid Rodelo who had been jailed for being with Hardin when the outlaw was arrested, Nora, a tainted demoiselle Link her boyfriend and Thomas Reese their guide try and, make it, against tough odds and conditions to the Mexican border. Their journey become complicated when they are trailed by a band of bounty hunting Indians which causes problems for and among the group.
